Contemptibles and the Royal British Legion

Family brewer Arkells have produced a special beer that is helping to support the Royal British Legion, which is celebrating its 100th Anniversary this year.

The White Hart Hotel in Whitchurch is one of the selected pubs that is serving this tasty beer named Contemptibles. To try it but its is best to get there soon before it runs out. The friendly pub also has other Arkell’s beers, usually BBs and Wiltshire Gold.

The beer has been brewed as a traditional ‘Mild’ – itself a rare style in the area. At a strength of 4.0%, it uses a traditional recipe with chocolate malt and has a warm roastiness, ideal for sitting next to a warming fire as autumn chill sets in. It was last brewed in 2014 when produced to mark the centenary of the First World War.

The Arkell’s brewing family has long connections with the military. Head Brewer Alex Arkell’s great grandfather Noel Arkell and his great uncle Graham Arkell both fought in WW1. The pump design features Noel Arkell’s sons James and Peter who fought in the Second World War.

For each cask sold the brewery is donating £10 to the Royal British Legion.
Best get along to the White Hart soon before its all gone.
