There remains uncertainty but also hope over the future of this year’s Hampshire Octoberfest, one of the largest and most enjoyable Music and Beer Festivals in the area, and held annually at the Cricket Club ground in Basingstoke.
Covid-19 is affecting a great many events and this is no exception.
The organisers, Destination Basingstoke, had set this year’s dates as September 17th–19th 2021 but that still remains in doubt with a firm decision some weeks away.
This week they have said there is a ‘research programme’ for events which is ongoing, the results on which will determine whether social distancing and other measures will be necessary. A decision as to whether the event will proceed will probably not be made until closer to 21st June, although it is hopeful it may be sooner.
They have said the future will depend on what measures will need to be put in place.
The event has been much anticipated after its unfortunate cancellation last year. As well as live music and beers, the event acts as a celebration of the region’s local producers.
Regular attendee Kirsty Woods said she is really hoping this year’s event takes place “after a wet 2019 and a cancelled 2020 I hope this year’s event goes ahead and is the success it deserves to be and the good family entertainment returns “.
