Brewery for Sale

After 28 years of producing award winning beers Anna Marie and Stig Anker Andersen have put the Stonehenge Ales brewery up for sale – “lock, stock and barrel”

The brewery has an idyllic location at Netheravon on the River Avon. Brewing commenced in the Old Mill in 1983 when Tony and Robinetta Bunce started Bunces Brewery in the former electricity generator building.

From 1914 the generating station used water from the river to produce power for the nearby Netheravon Airfield but it had to be supplemented by diesel generators which became uneconomic and its power production ceased. The building had several used before becoming a brewery, ranging from a village hall with boxing matches to a fibreglass factory.

Danish Master Brewer Stig took over in 1993 and changed the name to Stonehenge Ales and continued the traditional brewing style with superb ales including such classics as Danish Dynamite and Pigswill as well as the annual green beer Sign of Spring, always the centre of interest when it arrives on the bar.

In 2015 bottled Stonehenge Spring Water was added to the Stonehenge Ales repertoire and thousands of bottles go to the nearby Stonehenge Visitors Centre.

Stig and Anna will be sorely missed but they will leave a business with a superb reputation for fine traditionally brewed ales – and a real exciting opportunity for someone.
All of us wish them the best for the future – they are lovely people.
