Hampshire Octoberfest have issued a statement on the planned 2021 event that was due to be held in Basingstoke on September 17th – 19th.
The organisers say:
It is with great sadness that we must announce that Destination Basingstoke have taken the decision to cancel Hampshire OctoberFest 2021.
Although the roadmap currently indicates that there will be an end to social distancing and live events will be able to take place there is still a huge amount of uncertainty and the possibility of last minute changes are very real.
As a small not for profit organisation, Destination Basingstoke really want to bring you fantastic events to attend, we have ridden the storm over the last 16 months, postponing, cancelling, changing plans and delivering events wherever possible, indeed we were able to deliver the first council approved event in the borough this year.
However the risks posed by Hampshire OctoberFest are simply too great to allow us to put this event on. Even if events of this nature are allowed to take place after the next government announcement, without any insurance or government backed insurance scheme available, any last minute cancellations or changes due to COVID could be catastrophic for our organisation and for other suppliers we work with.
We appreciate your support and understanding, this has not been an easy decision to make and we look forward to bring great events back to Basingstoke.“
